What you need to know about training runs

Overview

These runs are scheduled at key moments in your training journey to keep you moving and motivated. 

Can’t make it? We hope you’ll still log the miles with us from afar.  

Wherever you’re running, share photos and tag us with #FredsTeam — we’d love to see how your training is coming along!

Arrival and check-in

Runners of all levels are welcome, and you don’t need to RSVP. Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the run starts. You must check in when you arrive and check out after the run. 

Note: Fred’s Team runs are for registered participants only.

Other info

Fred’s Team will not provide beverages, so please bring your own water and sports drinks. If you’re bringing a small bag, we will gladly watch it for you. 

Note: Any training run cancellations will be posted on Fred’s Team social media.

June 13: Kickoff run 

Let’s kick off the season’s training sessions at one of our favorite Central Park landmarks: the Fred Lebow statue at 90th Street and Fifth Avenue. Be sure to give Fred a high five! 

The run will be relaxed and low-key, and your coaches will be on hand to answer questions and explain how your long runs should feel at this early stage of training. You’ll also get to meet your fellow teammates and Fred’s Team staff! 

Location: Fred Lebow Statue, 90th Street and Fifth Avenue, Central Park  
Run time: 7 a.m.–9 a.m.  
Distance: 7 miles

If you're not up for the distance, your coaches will adjust the route and help you catch up safely. Chat with them before you start or message us ahead of time

June training

I have been with Fred’s Team since 1998, and I’m proud of not only my involvement and the development of our coaching program in 2003 but the opportunity to coach thousands of teammates through the years.

I’m a doctor, a runner, and a fanatical Fred’s Team member. I’ve run 18 New York City Marathons and another 25 marathons and ultramarathons around the world. My passion for running found new depth and meaning when I began training with Fred’s Team.

I ran my first New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team in 2006 as a “one and done,” and 21 years later, I’m still here! Since joining Fred’s Team, I’ve completed 10 marathons, 3 Olympic triathlons, and 4 half-Ironmans — so far.

I joined Fred’s Team in 2006 to run my first marathon. At the time, I could barely run a mile. Since then, I’ve run a total of eight marathons. It has been my pleasure and privilege to be a part of the team as a runner and mentor.

I joined Fred’s Team in 2016 after my mother-in-law passed away from brain cancer. I’ve run nine marathons with Fred’s Team since then. My teammates continue to inspire me.
