Fred's Team

Fred’s Team, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's (MSK) running program, gives every runner the opportunity to add more meaning to their miles by raising money for lifesaving cancer research at MSK. 100% of the money raised goes directly into the labs at MSK, where groundbreaking discoveries are making a real difference for people around the world.

Official events include the TCS New York City Marathon, United Airlines NYC Half, TCS London Marathon, and BMW Berlin Marathon. Fred’s Team runners are given the ultimate experience with exclusive race-day benefits as well as a comprehensive training program and dedicated coaches. Participants can also raise money for Fred’s Team anytime, anywhere through Fundraise Your Way.

History

fred

In 1995, Fred’s Team was named in honor of running legend and co-founder of the New York City Marathon—Fred Lebow. In 1991, while undergoing treatment for brain cancer at MSK, he jogged through hospital hallways, determined to find a way to give back. That year, Fred encouraged runners competing in the New York City Marathon to raise money for each mile they ran, and designated MSK the first official charity of the iconic race.

Since the start of Fred’s Team, runners have been participating in races worldwide to support critical cancer research at MSK. Every year, participants put on their orange Fred’s Team uniform, and take part in 5Ks, half-marathons, marathons, triathlons, climbs, and more—all while adding meaning to their miles.

As Fred said, a lot of satisfaction comes with running a race—but the critical funds runners raise for cancer research makes a difference that goes far beyond the finish line.
